Simple AM receiver

The schematic shown below is a simple am receiver circuit uses only one transistor and some other components. The inductor (L1) could be a standard AM radio ferrite rod antenna while the tuning capacitor (C1) is a variable plastic dielectric gang, intended for small AM radios. D1 (1N914) functions as the detector.
